Reverse IP Lookup
Find the domain pointing to any IP address.
What is reverse IP lookup?
Reverse IP lookup goes from an IP address back to a hostname using PTR records in DNS. Forward DNS turns example.com into an IP, while reverse DNS turns an IP back into a hostname. Email servers, security tools, and abuse trackers rely on it heavily.
Why is reverse DNS useful?
Receiving mail servers reject email from IPs without proper PTR records, which is one of the simplest spam filters out there. Network admins use it to identify which server is hitting their logs. Security researchers use it to trace suspicious traffic back to a real hostname.
How do you use this tool?
- Paste an IPv4 or IPv6 address into the input.
- Click Reverse lookup.
- The tool shows the PTR record if one exists for that IP.
When does reverse DNS fail?
Most home connections, mobile networks, and shared hosting IPs do not have customized PTR records. They either return no record or a generic provider hostname. Only servers with their own static IP usually have a clean PTR set up.
