What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a small markdown file at the root of your site, similar to robots.txt but built for AI crawlers and large language models. It tells AI engines what your site is about, which pages matter most, and how to read your content for citations.
Why publish an llms.txt file?
AI search engines pull from many pages but cite only a few. A clean llms.txt helps the model find the highest value pages on your site quickly, increasing the chance you get cited rather than a competitor with messier structure. It is one of the cleanest AEO wins for very little effort.
How do you use this tool?
- Fill in your site name, URL, and a short description.
- List your most important pages in title pipe URL format.
- Click Generate llms.txt.
- Save the file at the root of your domain at the slash llms dot txt path.
When should you update it?
Whenever you publish a major new page, change a key URL, or refresh your positioning. Treat llms.txt like a living index of your top content rather than a static one time file.
